30 Sec Answer: Charles Xavier is 80 years old.
How Old is Charles Xavier?
Charles Xavier, better known as Professor X in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has become one of the most iconic characters in comic book history. As a powerful telepath and mentor to some of the world’s most well-known superheroes, Professor X has been an integral part of many stories involving mutants. But how old is he?
Background Information on Charles Xavier
The character of Charles Xavier was first introduced in 1963’s The Uncanny X-Men #1 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Since then, he has appeared in numerous comics, films, television shows, and video games. In the movies, he has been portrayed by Patrick Stewart (X-Men 1-3) and James McAvoy (X-Men: First Class). He is usually depicted as being elderly and wise beyond his years.
Charles Xavier’s Age in Comics
In the original comics, Charles Xavier was established as being born in 1950 which would make him 70 years old at present. This means that when the original X-Men films were released, Patrick Stewart was already older than the character he was playing! It also explains why Xavier appears to be much older than other characters such as Magneto (played by Ian McKellen), who was actually younger than Stewart in real life.
Charles Xavier’s Age in Films & TV Shows
In the films and television shows set within the same universe as the comics, Charles Xavier’s age varies greatly depending on which timeline it is set in. In X-Men: First Class for example, he is shown to be only 33 years old – significantly younger than his comic book counterpart.
In The Gifted, a Fox series based on Marvel’s mutant storylines from 2006 onwards, Professor X is once again aged up to be 80 years old. Interestingly enough this puts him at exactly the same age as his comic book counterpart currently is today. This change was likely made due to casting decisions; Stephen Moyer, who portrays Professor X in The Gifted was 48 at the time of filming – much closer to an 80 year old man than a 30 year old one!
What Age Is Charles Xavier Now?
Based on all available evidence, it can be concluded that Professor X is currently 80 years old in both comic books and television/film adaptations set within the same continuity. While this may seem quite advanced for someone with such incredible powers and abilities, it should be noted that many mutants have long lifespans due to their special genetic makeup – meaning that Professor X could live even longer if given the chance!
Historical Changes To Charles Xavier’s Age
Throughout the decades since his creation there have been several instances where his exact age changes slightly or remains unspecified entirely. For example, during the events of The Dark Phoenix Saga in 1980 he states that he had “lived for almost two hundred years” – indicating that at least some of these years may not have been spent aging like normal humans do. Additionally in later works such as Wolverine Origins #25 (2007) it is implied that he had actually died and been reborn into a new body sometime prior to this event taking place – further muddying any attempt to accurately determine his true age!
Overall it can be said with relative certainty that Charles Xavier is currently 80 years old both in comics and film/television adaptations set within Marvel’s mutant universe. However due to certain plot points over the years it can never be completely ruled out that this number might not change slightly or drastically depending on what story line or medium you are looking at!
